Job Title: Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant Department: Occupational Therapy Reports To: Clinical Coordinator/Occupational Therapy
Under the supervision of a Registered Occupational Therapist, provides appropriate treatments and evaluations for patients referred to Occupational Therapy. Interprets and instructs others in goals and objectives of Occupational Therapy Department.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Provides occupational therapy treatments under direct supervision of a registered occupational therapist. 2. Maintains appropriate patient documentation under supervision of a registered occupational therapist. 3. Attends required staff, team, and rehabilitation meetings and inservices. 4. Assists in assuring all occupational therapy equipment and rehabilitation devices are safe and operable. 5. Provides leadership in patient group activities within the occupational therapy department. 6. Communicates the aims and purposes of the occupational therapy program as part of their their routine functioning. 7. Is familiar with and cooperates in the carry-out of Hospital policies and procedures, especially in the areas of personnel, fire, disaster and safety. 8. Responsible for the accurate and timely documentation of daily charges. 9. Is accountable for daily professional conduct and follow through of department respon- sibilities (in a timely manner) as assigned by Clinical Coordinator of Occupational Therapy. 10. Assists in the orientation of staff members (including supportive personnel, students, and assistants assigned to work area). Supervises OTA students as assigned. 11. Immediately informs the Clinical Coordinator of staff concerns and/or problems concerning the department. 12. Assures timeliness of patient scheduling, as well as assigning patients to other staff upon initiating of treatment and when coverage is needed due to vacations and illnesses of therapists. 13. Monitors appropriateness for patient care through peer review, chart review and direct observation. 14. Assists in developing new programs and protocols for patient treatments, and reviews them with staff members, either as a group or individually. 15. Demonstrates competency in time performance of patient's tests, measurements, and evaluations such as range of motion, manual muscle testing, function analysis, and records and evaluates findings to aid in establishing or revising specifics of treatment programs under direct supervision of a Registered Occupational Therapist. 16. Develops appropriate skill level in areas of specialization which will allow him/her to provide coverage in existing specialty programs when needed (e.g., Inpatient Rehabilitation, Outpatient Groups Contracts) under direct supervision of a Registered Occupational Therapist.
17. Assists in developing and implementing public relations activities for services within the rehabilitation department. Meets regularly with representatives of other disciplines, will also assist in long-range planning and development of anticipated new programs. 18. Promotes and fosters the mission and philosophy of the Hospital during performance of job duties and community activities. 19. Actively supports and participates in the Hospital's Performance Improvement endeavors. 20. Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Training: 1. Associates degree from a program accredited by the American Occupational Therapy Association for Occupational Therapy Assistants. 2. New York State Licensure. 3. Pennsylvania Licensure; as needed.
Experience and Job Knowledge: 1. Prior experience preferred, but not required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 1. Heavy lifting, bending, reaching, standing, pushing, pulling, to assist in the treatment of clients.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: 1. Personable, cooperative, able to relate well with staff, students, and outside agencies and groups, and other departments within the Hospital. 2. Trustworthy in safeguarding confidential information. 3. Ability to make accurate decisions and give appropriate guidance as required.
